This is a lovely piece of Victorian costume jewelry. It's a brooch with the beautifully detailed metal work , the English call Pinch, (from Pinchbeck) which looks and wears like gold. The piece has the original "t" hinge, but the clasp has been replaced with a safety clasp. I am not 100 percent sure whether the stone is paste or an amethyst, but it looks beautiful, and while it looks vintage, it does not not look worn. There is the large stone, surrounded by four smaller ones. This circa 1880 brooch measures 1 and 1/2 inches East to West, and 1 and 1/4 inches North to South. This is a great opportunity to get a lovely Victorian piece, and one with a lot of glass, for not very much money.
