This is a lovely navette shaped memorial ring, featuring a sepia painting . In the painting we see a lady in Georgian dress, looking at a page (probably a page from the book of life where the name of her loved one is listed). The painting is in excellent condition, and there is a very nice paste surround. The ring is a size 6 and 1/4, though it could be sized by a jeweler used to working on early pieces. The top of the ring measures 1 and 1/4 inches North to South, and 5/8 of an inch East to West. The gold on the ring tests 12 carat gold, and on the closed back are the initials "MLH", or that's what it looks like to me. These rings are getting so hard to find; this one is a bargain. It is circa 1790.
