I've had several of these black enamel memorial brooches, but this is one of the nicest I've ever seen. It's shape is different, and in the middle of the black enamel, there is an agate cameo, complete with forget-me-nots on the top. This lovely cameo is surrounded with natural pearls, and the entire piece has a heavy, gold, scrolled border, which is most likely 15 to 18 ct. The back of the piece features beautiful hairwork beautifully fashioned in a thick curl, with adorning pearls. The brooch retains its "c' clasp, and "t" hinge, and is engraved, "Elizabeth Martha Huskisson, Nat Nov 22, 1801, Ob 26th May, 1883." I've never seen one with "NAT". I am assuming it means when she was born, but I am not certain of this. the brooch measures 2 inches North to South (the way it is worn,) and 1 and 1/4 inches East to West. What a lovely way to remember a loved one who is departed.
