This is a nice box, which was, most likely, intended for snuff, though it could have been for stamps. It is the McFarlane Tartan, and it measures 2 inches in diameter. The box is in excellent condition, with no paper loss, and the name of the tartan is in gold lettering on the top of the piece. This box is circa 1870. The white spots on the photo are flash glare; there is no paper loss on this box.
