This is one of my favorite motifs in Victorian Jewelry--the pansy. Victorians loved pansies, and used that motif in jewelry. It was very sentimental as the word pansy comes from the French Pense, meaning "to think." Pansy jewelry represents the Victorian sentiment "Think of me." This ring is unmarked but tested 15 ct gold, and circa 1850. It is a size 6, and consists of five petal shaped, closed backed amethysts, and a turquoise in the middle. The pansy part of the ring measures 3/8 of an inch North to South, and 1/2 inch East to West. It weighs 1.80 grams, and is in excellent condition. Believe me I have several "Pansies," in my personal jewelry collection, and I love them, as well as the flower itself.
