This is a very nice mourning brooch--gold and enamel, with hair, but what makes it very special to me is the wonderful, red velvet presentation case, with the brooch encased in glass. Then there is the hand written note describing how the brooch contains the hair of two children, and it was presented to their mother, "Great Grandmother Huston," circa 1830. The case measures 3 and 1/2 inches North to South, and 3 inches East to West. The case and brooch are in excellent condtion. The brooch is gold, and I suppose it to be 18 carat, though it has not been tested.
