I must admit I fell in love with this piece the moment I saw it, and determined to keep it. I have held off adding it to Ruby Lane because I want it, but I also wanted the Georgian longuard chain with hand clasp and bracelet. Alas, I owe money on all these wonderful items, and can not afford to keep them all, so have decided to part with this one--for the time being anyway, Actually, when the two clasps are joined together, we have a 24 and 1/2 inch neck chain, with two, wonderful, gold clasps, with hair work inside. The pieces can be detached, and I prefer it this way, and one can have a 17 and 3/4 inch neck chain, and a 7 inch bracelet. These natural, seed pearls, have been restrung, and are secure. They have been twisted. as the French often do, with a pearl holding each section. Of course, one could wear the chain with an enhancer. It just dawned on me that I have a wonderful, pearl and hair heart, that would look awesome on this. Oh well, I'm not ready to give up the gold longuard yet! This piece has such, classic, timeless beauty. It is circa 1840. I am not really classifying this piece as memorial jewelry, though it is possible that it is. I rather imagine that it is sentimental; the hair of a couple, Mother and child, etc.
