This is a lovely, circa 1850 sewing box in excellent condition. The lacquered finish made it difficult to get a good photo of the beautiful inlaid work, without a glare, but I did my best. The amazing Mother of Pearl inlay work, just about has to be seen to be believed. Inside there are all sorts of sewing goodies, in fitted places, with the original pink, silk lining. We have a 5 piece set of hooks, etc, with Mother of Pearl handles, there are spools of thread, both on and off mother of pearl holders, two thimbles which appear to be brass, more mother of pearl thread winders . The top tray lifts out, and there is more storage space below it. There are more Mother of Pearl thread winders, and an advertisement of items for purchase from Desmond Brothers, Belfast. This box is really a thing of beauty, and quite rare to find one in this great condition. The box measures 3 inches tall, 8 and 1/4 inches East to West, and 6 inches North to South, and it contains a key. What an amazing piece to grace a sewing table, or add to a collection of sewing items.
