This is such a wonderful and rare item. I have only seen one, years ago, and I sold it to a lady whose husband is an artist who has painted the Presidents. She got it for him for Christmas. This one is very special. It is a mahogany box in excellent condition with a working key, and it is absolutely full of painting supplies, including porcelain trays, paints, pencils, a crystal bowl for water, etc. The box has a tray that pulls out from the bottom which contains a second porcelain mixing tray. The box still has its original label which states that the box was made by Winsor and Newton, Limited, Manufacturers by Appointment to Her Majesty and to T.R.H. The Price and Princess of Wales, 38 Rathbone Place, London. I had this box shipped from the UK, and I had a hard time getting all the pieces put in the right place, but I finally managed it, and it closes perfectly. The box measures 9 inches East to West, 7 inches North to South, and is 3 inches tall. It is circa 1850.
