This is a lovely lover's knot ring, fashioned in unmarked but tested 14 carat yellow gold. Inside the knot is black enamel with an intaglio which consists of a forget-me-not, fashioned in silver and rose cut diamonds, with a rose cut on either side of the intaglio. The ring is a size 5 and 1/2, according to the ring sizer, but I must say it fits my finger more like a size 6, so I checked it several times. Sometimes these antique rings just do not read correctly on the sizer. I feel like it would fit a size 5 and 3/4 to 6. The ring is in very good shape. The enamel is not chipped, though it is a little bubbled on the edges in a few places, which is not noticeable to the naked eye, and which may have always been there, as enameling is a difficult skill to acquire. The ring weighs 4.88 grams, and the portion with the knot measures 5/8 of an inch east to west, and 3/8 of an inch, North to South. The ring could be resized by someone used to working with antique pieces. There is also a hair locket in the back which still has it's bezel (often the glass is missing) and it still contains a lock of the beloved's hair. What a lovely, circa 1850 piece of sentimental jewelry this is. This is the first ring I have seen to incorporate the lover's know, and the forget-me-not intaglio, all in the same piece.
