This is a lovely pansy ring. Pansies are one of my very favorite Victorian motifs. The word pansy comes from the French, pense , meaning "to think, or to think off." This one is a lovely example. It is a size 6, and crafted of 14 carat gold. It weighs 1.60 grams, and is in excellent condition. It contains 2 amethysts, 3 opals, and a small diamond chip. The ring is circa 1860. It is hallmarked for the gold content and the city where minted (Birmingham), but I don't see a date mark. The portion of the ring that forms the flower is between 1/4 and 1/2 inches North to South, and about the same East to West. It is a lovely , feminine ring.
