These boxes with the mottos are my personal favorites. This patch box reads "Wafted by friendship's sacred gale/ May we a virtuous course e're sail. This circa 1800 box is in excellent condition for its age. I see a lot of them for sale on various auction sites, but I don't buy them because there is too much damage. Age is ok for me, but downright broken is not. Anyway, this one has a few age marks,but all the enamel is present, the box closes beautifully, there are no missing bits of enamel, and best of all, I actually think this patch box has the original mirror. That's very rare, and if this mirror is not original, it is very, very old. This box measures 1 and 1/4 inches East to West, and a little over 1 inch North to South. I rarely find these in any sort of decent condition anymore. These were a real find which actually, I would be happy to keep in my own collection. Note: These photos were taken with a macro lens, so everything is magnified. The spots on the bottom are dirt which I did not even notice until I saw the photo.
