This is a lovely piece, crafted in 18 ct gold. I will probably put it in the mourning category, though I am not sure that it is not a sentimental exchange of hair between living loved ones. At any rate, this is a beauty. We have a beautiful Prince of Wales Plume of Hair, with a pearl surrounded plaque reading "Souvenir," (Memory). Pearls do often indicate tears, so it may well be a piece mourning the beloved. I do wish it could talk! The glass reverse of the locket contains more hairwork. The piece still has it's "bubble glass and original "t" hinge, and "c" clasp, as well as a bale, so this piece may be worn as a pendant or a brooch. It is circa 1850, and is in excellent condition. Not including the bale, the piece is 1 and 1/8 inch in diameter. What a lovely memory!
