Garnet and Pearl Pendant/Brooch, Early Victorian - image 1 of 4

What a beautiful piece is this circa 1840 pendant/brooch, complete with chain. I love the gold work of this period. This piece tests 14 k, though it was probably meant to be 18 when it was constructed, but often, gold was mixed at that time. This piece contains 6 garnets, and 4 natural pearls. The back has a brooch attachment , but there is also a chain attached. Most likely the chain is similar to what was on the pendant originally, but i'm certain the chain is not as old as the pendant. The entire piece weighs 9.34 grams, and the chain measures 17 inches. The pendant itself measures 2 inches North to South, and 1 and 1/2 inches wide at its widest point. They just do not make pieces that look like this any more!
