I love these crystal hearts, and I have a collection of them myself. I guess because I'm a former English teacher, I am fascinated by the sentiments expressed on these hearts. I wish I knew exactly what this one means, but none of my usual translators could figure it out. Of course it's French that might have been used in 1800. If anyone out there in cyber space can translate, I would appreciate it. The words appear to be "La Je Cheri Piate" or there may be a letter in front of the "P." It's hard to tell. The piece is 18 ct gold with white enamel, and it measures 1 inch long, and 5/8 of an inch wide. The crystal heart is in very good condition. Note: I have looked at this again , very carefully, and the words are "La Cherie Je Spiate." Loosely translated, I think it means "I spy my darling." Note: The picture with the blue background is the best one to see the letters, but of course, the crystal heart is clear inside, and not blue. I have added a photo on a white background also, but the cracked looking marks are the wear marks on the white plate I used, and not on the heart.
