Lovely, pastel hued, French, artist signed Robert Auer postcard with two lovely women, a spring of mistletoe and the greeting "Bonne et Heureuse Année" (Happy New Year). In good antique condition with some light foxing and staining and minor corner bumping.
The back is written on but not posted. I had trouble with the handwriting so I could only partially decipher the beginning of the note: "Merci de vos voeux de ??. Je ne sais que vous souhaiter qui ne joune pas faux..." ("Thank you for your greetings from ??. I do not know what to wish you who does not play false...") as well as the year 1909. Perhaps you will have better luck!

Auer was a painter and illustrator who studied at the Academies in Vienna and Munich. He took part in the 1896 Vienna Secession, and left the Croatian Salon to help found the more progressive Croatian Society of Artists. Most of Auer’s work consisted of portraits and nudes that incorporated ancient classical themes. This carried over to the watercolors he made for postcard production.
