This is a wonderful French Art Nouveau c1890s belt made of etched leaf shaped filigree links, with an adorable rooster buckle (the rooster being the national emblem of France). It is of a generous length - 36 inches or 92 cm - which makes it really easy to wear with contemporary clothing. The buckle is oval with scalloped borders, and measures 2.25 inches or 5.8 cm by 1.9 inch (4.7 cm). The belt is 2.8 cm or just over 1 inch wide. It fastens with two hooks which can be connected to any of the links, thus adjusting the length as needed.

Lovely workmanship, with delicate etching and lacelike openwork detailing in the buckle. The exotic image of the roosters pecking at lush plants in a jungle-like setting suggests the stylistic influence of far-off places like French Indochina, where this may have been made.
