Vintage 1960s Expanda Cufflinks, Gilt Expandable Chain Midcentury Links

This is a stylish pair of brightly gilt expandable cufflinks from the 1960s or 70s. They have the unusual feature of an expandable chain concealed by a sprung mechanism inside the links' faces. The chain stretches out when the faces are pulled away from each other, allowing men to put on their shirt without removing the cufflinks first. The chain expands to a length of about 1 inch. This mechanism was invented in the 1920s by Stratton of Birmingham, and first appeared in their iconic 'Expanda' cufflinks.

The faces of the links are decorated with a stylish curved design with contrasting textured and polished sections. There is no signature, but the links are good quality, and remarkably well preserved.
