This is a wonderful pair of Art Deco 1930s Lambournes cufflinks (signed L's and inscribed with a patent number) with the unusual feature of an expandable chain concealed by a sprung mechanism inside the links' faces. The chain stretches out when the faces are pulled away from each other, allowing men to put on their shirt without removing the cufflinks first. The chain expands to a length of about 1 inch. This mechanism was invented in the 1920s by Stratton of Birmingham, and first appeared in their iconic 'Expanda' cufflinks.
The faces are decorated with a charming Deco Modernist geometric motif against a machine turned background. The link faces are identical and measure .75 inch in length. In excellent condition, bright and well preserved for their age. The underside of one of the faces is pushed in a bit (not visible whilst wearing it), but the face itself is quite pristine. A stylish pair of Art Deco traditional links in excellent working order!
