Antique Georgian Shaker Locket Pendant c1830s Silver Fob w Opal, Garnet & Seed Pearl Gemstones Necklace

This is a beautifully dainty Georgian (circa 1830s) keepsake fob locket made of solid silver, with a thick bezel set crystal under which a small photo or lock of hair can be fitted - or, it can be worn as a shaker filled with tiny gems: we have added a translucent opal, two Bohemian garnets in rich red wine colours, and a seed pearl. The pendant has a 16mm or 0.6 inch diameter and is 0.75 inch high including its bale. It has a hand etched rose border often found in Georgian lockets, and a delicate decorative geometric pattern on the reverse. The crystal bezel capsule fits into the main locket frame and can be removed from the front by carefully inserting a pin or small blade into a slim groove between bezel and frame. The locket comes with a 16 inch fine Italian silver chain stamped 925 on the clasp and loop. Together they weigh six grams.

This exquisite little keepsake fob locket may have originally been a Memento Mori pendant (these contained a small symbolic artifact such as a tiny urn, intended as a reminder that life is short and should be enjoyed to the fullest).
