This is a rare and distinctive Art Deco 1930s necklace made of graduated barrel beads made of moulded art glass covered in gold speckles, with a heavy, durable feel to it - similar to stoneware. The beads are a slightly translucent white, speckled with shimmery bronze-gold confetti. It looks like the glass has been rolled and then pressed into a mould to create raised diagonal striations. The necklace is different to the usual Murano or Czech art glass we often see, so we think it could be Austrian.
The necklace is 24 inches long and weighs an impressive 111 grams. The largest bead at the centre measures 1 inch in length, with a half inch diameter, and the smallest bead measures 0.6 x 0.4 inch. The beads have a fine artistic quality and are chain linked. A fine and unusual necklace - please get in touch if you can shed further light on this... ;-)
