The Pomological Magazine Published by James Ridgeway Piccadilly, Oct 1, 1828
The Pomological Magazine; or Figures and descriptions of the most important varieties of fruit cultivated in Great Britain. Pub. John Linley 1828-1830.
The first three volumes (1828-1930) of the magazine were illustrated by Augusta Innes Baker Withers who was botanical artist to Queen Adelaide. She exhibited her work at the gallery of the Horticultural Society and worked as an illustrator for Curtis's Botanical Magazine. She was one of the artists for James Batemann's Orchidaceae of Mexico and Guatemala (1837-1841) which is still considered to be one of the great botanical books of the nineteenth century.
John Lindley was the first secretary at the Royal Horticutural Society, where he was able to keep informed of new varieties of fruit and to inform the public about significant new varieties by publishing The Pomological Magazine.
