Beautiful very detailed branches with green leaves and pink rose flowers decorates this large 15 1/2" x 12 1/2" antique oval platter. The pattern name is Briar. The distinguishing monogram found printed on the backside identifies this item from the manufacturer George Jones and Sons circa 1881. There is also a old diamond registration mark which aids in accurate dating. The is also an impressed mark and red numbers 6793 on the back. I believe the flowers are hand painted over transferware printing. The work is artistically well done and gorgeous. This platter would be worth a lot more if it didn't have the front chip ( see picture ) . That is the only problem. It is clean otherwise. There are some light utensil marks. I really like this pretty unusual platter.
