This charming original colored etching print of a young Japanese Girl and her doll is by the artist Willy Seiler. It is titled "Little Mother" and signed by Willy Seiler. On the backside of the etching is printed " Plate No. 28 A* Edition Limited". The etching by itself measures 8 1/4" x 11 1/4". Framed, glassed, and matted it measures 14" x 17". The 3/4" frame is beautiful cherry wood. The studio location Karuizawa, Japan is printed in paper and stamped on the back cover board. The print is in excellent condition. The mat is age toned and has four dark spots. The mat could easily be replaced. The frame has minor light scratches.
The artist was born in Dresden, Germany in 1903. He studied art in Dresden and Munich, but left Germany in 1928. He traveled extensively finally settled in Karuizawa, Japan after World War ll. Seiler's etchings have won him a wide reputation. He sold many of his works to the American Occupation forces stationed in Japan. Seiler worked as an art instructor for an American Army College in Tokyo. He also did some oil paintings. His work shows picturesque scenes from Japan and Korea. His images have held their appeal over the years and now becoming collectors items.
