This lovely Biscuit Barrel has seen better days, but still shows outstanding vivid colors of enamelware! The Biscuit Barrel measures 6 1/2" to top of lid, 5 1/2 " wide and the base is 5 3/4" diameter. The top has a silverplate rim and lid. But the handle is missing. The inside lining is a very clean white ceramic. The colorful hummingbirds really stand out the black background. The design is raised enamel of birds, foliage, a birds nest, and flowers. All beautifully painted. The artistic work reminds me of Pietre Dure furniture ( the technique of using cut highly polished stones on black to create images). There are numbers on the base L 5832 and a :/: in white ink. Unfortunately, there is a large, not well done, repaired chip on the bottom rim. Even with its problems, the barrel is still pretty to use as a display item on a shelf with the chip turned wall side.
