Antique Royal Bayreuth Tomato Design Dish circa 1902
This is a unique true red 12" x 4 3/4" ( widest point) Royal Bayreuth Tomato design dish with delicate green leaves. The leaves form the handles, the side centers, and trim the base of the dish. The blue over-glazed mark dates to 1902. Research from " Royal Bayreuth Collectors Guide" by Mary J. Mc Caslin. Also on the bottom is a Registration mark "Deponiert" which means to assure the buyer that the mold is intact and item may be re-ordered.
The Royal Bayreuth Factory was founded in 1794 in the small Bavarian village of Tettau in east Germany. Since the late 18th century, the Royal Bayreuth factory has made a variety of decorative and functional wares. Royal Bayreuth was one of the first porcelain manufacturer's in Europe and is still in business today.
This dish is in wonderful condition with no chips or cracks. No loss of paint. One red side has a few very tiny dark spots. I believe these were done during the manufacturing process. Really in fine condition. Ready to serve delicious summer tomatoes.
