This 10 1/2" x8"x5 1/2" early 1900's Tramp Art Box has extraordinary workmanship. The lid is framed on four sides with eight layers of chip carving. The sides are framed with five layers. It was probably used s a sewing box. Another wonderful feature is the amount of ornate brass decoration mounted on the panels. There is a brass Victorian motif handle, four floral brass floral baskets, and lots of brass trim on all the panels. Some of the trim was hand painted bright colors which has faded. You can still see bright colors around the inside .
The Tramp Art Box does have several condition problems. The lock was forced open leaving damage. In many places brass trim is missing. The velvet panels are very worn. The inside shows age with peeling decoration red design paper. The hinges work but are missing one half of a bracket.
The outstanding feature of this box is the carving work. All intact and in very good shape.
