The striking border gets your attention on this 9" Hand Painted Doulton Plate. It is scalloped with an intricate brown-cream floral, leave, scroll design. The flowers are decorated with enamel white beads. The rim is trimmed in gilt. The center is a lovely hand painted floral in the style of watercolor with pastel colors of green, blue, pink, rose, with white flowers. This plate is marked with the crown symbol of Doulton. This mark was used during 1891-1902. Also in ink C3315, GW/053. I wonder if GW could be the initials of the artist. It does have a couple of condition areas. There is a repaired chip ( about 2:00 o'clock) on the front and the gold trim around the well is worn off in places. This is still a wonderful example of very early Doulton. The company started in 1882.
