This is an Ambrotype of a Victorian Gentleman dressed in a suit. There is a halo of tarnish behind the man. The case is pressed wood to look like leather. The hook is still working to close the case. The red velvet liner is clean with a pretty scroll design. The brass frame with glass is ornate and in good condition. The spine is in good shape. The case measures 2 1/2" x 3" .
An Ambrotype is a photographic process in which a negative image is formed on collodion-coated glass, then viewed as positive by the inclusion of a black background. Most ambrotypes were made from 1854 to 1865.
