This beautiful Wash Basin Bowl is large 14 1/2"opening x 5" tall on a 8 1/2" base. It is priced reasonably because of condition. There are several rim hairline cracks and some glaze pops in the bottom of the bowl. No chips. The hairline cracks do not show much on the inside pattern.
It is still an attractive blue transferware Wash Basin with a wonderful scenery pattern called "Magdala". A landscape featuring mountains, buildings, water, boat, trees, people, elephants and camels. The cartouches all have a camel inside. There is a nice 1800's oval mark on the bottom with "Magdala" written inside the mark. Underneath the oval mark is J.M. & Co. There were several 1800's Staffordshire Potteries using these initials, so it is difficult to know which one made this bowl.
This bowl needs to be displayed where one can see the inside landscape. The elephant scene is wonderful!
