Wow! A matching set of five oriental design 9 1/4" Flow Blue Plates circa 1862. Found on p.38 Petra Williams Flow Blue Book ll. The design on the upper rim consists of small circles within key shapes, and scrolls within spade outlines. The lower rim is printed with peonies with dark leaves. The upper part of the well is encircled with a band of oriental brocade design interspersed with three small floral medallions. The central scene shows a table, a throne like chair, flowers, and vases.
The printed mark is English Ashworth Bros. with the crown and banner. Inside the banner is the pattern name "Hanley". The plates are in very good condition except for one that has an under the rim chip( not seen from the front). They have very light utensil marks. No cracks. Two of the plates have very light crazing. These plates are nice. I decided to price each plate separately since there are five.
