This gorgeous enamel over copper box has a quote from Socrates on the lid: "One word frees us of all the weight and pain in life. That word is love." The box was made by the English company called Halcyon Days Enamels which set out to revive the eighteenth century English craft of enameling over copper to produce lovely little boxes which were originally used for beauty patches, snuff, or candies.
The caramel brown rectangular box also depicts a beautiful angel feeding white doves in a temple setting. There is no interior design. The gold tone brass bezel is bright and shiny. The clasp opens easily and closes securely. The enamel trinket box measures 2" long, 1.625" from the hinge to the clasp, and .75" high. The rectangular Halcyon Days mark is on the bottom. The piece was produced in 2005.
The box is in excellent condition. It comes nestled in its original pale blue, suede lined presentation box protected by an outer cardboard sleeve (which does have some damage on the label, see photo). A Halcyon Days Enamels pamphlet is included also.
