This beautiful Blue Ridge maple leaf cake tray or serving plate in the "Verna" pattern depicts an array of light pink roses, blue forget-me-knots, pink lily-of-the-valley, and yellow tulips, and a bunch of blue grapes in a raised pattern by the handle. The cake plate measures about 10" in diameter. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The stamped mark on the underside states Blue Ridge China, Hand Painted Underglaze, Southern Potteries, Inc., Made in U.S.A.
Blue Ridge dinnerware was produced by Southern Potteries of Erwin, Tennessee, beginning in 1938. Girls and women from the surrounding area were employed and taught how to hand paint the designs, so there were slight differences from one piece to another in the same pattern. The stockholders voted to close the pottery in 1957.
