Halcyon Days Enamels of England set out to revive the eighteenth century English craft of enameling over copper to produce lovely little boxes which were originally used for beauty patches, snuff, or candies.
This beautiful white enamel box covered in hearts, roses, and doves was made by Halcyon Days Enamels in the 1980 for their St. Valentine's Day annual series. The lid portrays a leafy wreath surrounded by tiny roses, with a heart in the center and two doves sitting at the top of the heart. The center states "My love for you is ever true." The wreath, hearts, roses and birds are repeated around the sides. The interior of the lid has a black and white drawing of a wreath with St. Valentine's Day 1980 inside.
The enamel box is in excellent condition. The hinged lid opens easily and closes securely. The gold tone bezel is bright and shiny. The underside has the early oval Bilston and Battersea Enamels Halcyon Days mark. The box measures about 1.75" in diameter and stands about 1" tall. It comes in a navy blue presentation box with a certificate of authenticity.
It would make a beautiful gift for someone who was engaged or married in 1980.
