This beautiful ivory colored enamel box was made by Halcyon Days Enamels in the 1983 for their St. Valentine's Day annual series. Halcyon Days Enamels of England set out to revive the eighteenth century English craft of enameling over copper to produce lovely little boxes which were originally used for beauty patches, snuff, or candies.
The lid depicts a wreath of pink roses with a blue ribbon. The words "I love but you" are in the center of the wreath. Boughs of pink roses are draped around the sides interspersed with pairs of tiny blue hearts. The interior of the lid has a black and white drawing of the pairs of hearts with St. Valentine's Day 1982 in the center.
The enamel box is in excellent condition. The hinged lid opens easily and closes securely. The gold tone bezel is still bright and shiny. The underside has the oval Halcyon Days Enamels mark. The box measures about 1.75" in diameter and stands about 1" tall. It comes in a navy blue presentation box with the Certificate of Authenticity booklet.
It would make a beautiful gift for someone who was engaged or married in 1982.
