Halcyon Days Enamels of England set out to revive the eighteenth century English craft of enameling over copper to produce lovely little boxes which were originally used for beauty patches, snuff, or candies.
This beautiful white enamel box covered in tiny colorful flowers and birds was made by Halcyon Days Enamels in the 1983 for their St. Valentine's Day annual series. The lid portrays a red ribbon held by birds and surrounded by tiny flowers. The center states "May you ever happy be Beloved by all but most by me." The flowers and birds are repeated around the sides. The interior of the lid has a black and white drawing of a the flowers and a bird with St. Valentine's Day 1983.
The enamel box is in excellent condition. The hinged lid opens easily and closes securely. The gold tone bezel has aged slightly. The underside has the oval Halcyon Days Enamels mark. The box measures about 1.75" in diameter and stands about 1" tall. It comes in a navy blue presentation box with a certificate of authenticity.
It would make a beautiful gift for someone who was engaged or married in 1983.
