This delightful little enamel box figurine is a bonbonniere made by Halcyon Days of Bilston, England. A bonbonniere is a French term for a box of "bonbons" or other candies, or little favors, often given to guests at special occasions. They were very popular during the 18th century. The bonbonnieres produced by Halcyon Days deviated from their usual enamel boxes in that these were three dimensional, taking the form of the subject, rather than just a painting of the image on a box.
This bonbonniere features a raised badger on the lid with six badgers in a landscape around the sides. The interior has no decoration. The piece measures 1.25" in diameter at the copper bezel, and stands about 1.5" tall. The Halcyon Days oval mark is on the underside. This delightful enamel box is in excellent condition, except for one teeny scratch near the base on one side. It comes in it's original navy blue presentation box with The Story of Halcyon Days Enamels booklet.
