Halcyon Days Enamels set out to revive the eighteenth century English craft of enameling over copper to produce lovely little boxes which were originally used for beauty patches, snuff, or candies. In the 1970's, the company used the Bilston and Battersea Enamels oval mark. In 1980 the mark was changed to Halcyon Days Enamels.
This beautiful Christmas enamel box was made in 1979, and has the oval Bilston and Battersea mark on the underside. The box depicts a snow covered scene with children building a snowman. The sides of the box are adorned with gold holly boughs and Christmas 1979.
The enamel box is in very good condition. The hinged lid opens easily and closes securely. The gold tone bezel is still bright and shiny. The interior of the lid has a black and white drawing of a snowman and a dog. The interior of the base has a black and white drawing of holly. There are four small areas on the interior of the lid which appears to be glue that oozed out when the lid was set in the bezel.
The box measures about 1.75" in diameter and stands about 1" tall. This lovely enamel box comes in its navy blue presentation box with the Bilston & Battersea Enamels pamphlet. The box is in excellent condition.
