This gorgeous enamel box would make the perfect gift for a friend who loves wine. It was made by the English company called Halcyon Days in the 1980's-1990's as indicated by the oval Halcyon Days Enamels mark on the underside. Grape vines on the lid surround the saying "Friendship's the wine of life." The body of the box displays racks of wine bottles and single bottles of wine surrounded by grape vines.
Halcyon Days set out to revive the eighteenth century English craft of enameling over copper to produce lovely little boxes which were originally used for beauty patches, snuff, or candies.
The enamel box is in excellent condition. The hinged lid opens easily and closes securely. The interior of the lid has a colorful drawing of a castle with a field of grape vines in the foreground. The box, which is a bit larger than the usual tall enamel boxes Halcyon Days produces, measures about 2" in diameter across the lid from closure to hinge, and stands about 1.75" tall. There is no presentation box or pamphlets with this one.
