Road Kill is the second box by Harmony Kingdom given the banned black box status. Harmony Kingdom started the Black Box series for their box figurines that have subject matter that might be considered over the line, offensive, or too edgy. This particular box depicts a group of animals sitting on a cloud who have become road kill and bear the tire marks that killed them. All but the snake have earned angel wings. Peter's little mouse is visiting. The interior has a bomb meant for the offending vehicle, which the rabbit is about to detonate.
Road Kill is a limited edition in the Black Box series. This one is number 73 out of an edition of 5000. It was carved by Peter Calvesbert in 1998, then replicated in crushed marble and resin, and hand painted by cottage artisans in England. It was issued for sale on 1/1/1999. The model designation is TJBB99. The box figurine measures 2.76 x 2.2 x 2.8 inches. Hallmarks include a ©, a star, the HBC logo (treble clef), and Pc, Peter's initials. Inscriptions around the edge of the cloud commemorate famous people or characters who have died in traffic accidents including Princess Diana, (J)ayne Mansfield who was decapitated, James Dean, Thelma and Louise, etc.
Road Kill comes in its original Black Box with a Harmony Kingdom booklet. It is numbered and signed by Peter Calvesbert, and is in excellent condition. The piece can be found in The Harmony Kingdom Reference Guide by Leanna Barron on page 165.
