This antique porcelain snuff, patch or trinket box in a casket shape was made in Sceaux, France c late 1790s. The porcelain and scenic paintings are in excellent condition. The brass bezel has aged to a dark patina. The hinge works well.
The porcelain lid and base have apparently been re-glued at some point in the past to the bezel. There is a gap on one side of the lid and towards the clasp area where it was not centered properly. The lid does not close all the way as the teeth of the clasp hit on the bottom of the bezel. There is what appears to be some glue residue on the scalloped edges.
The underside has a crown and Sceaux mark.
Despite its flaws, it is a remarkable little antique box over two hundred years old.
