The Montgolfiere balloon was invented by two brothers, Joseph-Michel Montgolfier and Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier. Their first public demonstration of their invention occurred in France on 4 June 1783. This beautiful Montgolfiere Balloon depicted on an early Bilston & Battersea large enamel box by Halcyon Days was produced in 1978. The oval Bilston & Battersea Halcyon Days mark is on the underside. The lid is hand painted with a hot air balloon flight while the interior of the lid states: March 1784 Ascent at Strasbourg by M. Adorne in Montgolfiere balloon. This gorgeous enamel over copper box is in excellent condition and comes in its original lined turquoise presentation box with the "Bilston & Battersea Enamels Certificate of Origin" booklet. The enamel box measures about 2" in diameter at the base and stands about 1.25" high. An absolutely gorgeous box to add to your collection or give as a gift.
