This beautiful vintage enamel box was made in England by the Halcyon Days company of Bilston, England. The lid has a beautiful floral pattern with a bird which is surrounded by a quote - "For in my mind, of all mankind, I love but you alone." The interior of the lid states: Design based on an 18th-century Bilston enamel box in the collection of Bantock House Museum, Wolverhampton. The interior of the base states: Quotation from a 15th-century refrain. The brass bezel which has aged to a lovely patina closes tightly. The box is in excellent condition and comes in its lined presentation box with the "Halcyon Days Enamels" booklet. The box measures 2" long, about 1.5" wide, and just over an inch high.
This particular box is depicted in Susan Benjamin's book "The First 25 Years of Halcyon Days Enamels: The Revival of an English 18th-Century Craft" on page 100.
