Harmony Kingdom Treasure Jest Box Pecking Order
The UK based Harmony Kingdom began making the Treasure Jest boxes in the early 1990's. They have quickly become highly collectible. The boxes are intricate carvings by master artists made of crushed marble and resin to resemble antique ivory. The Treasure Jests are a humorous line often with secret images or markings that have meaning to artist's life.
This box is "Pecking Order." According to Harmony Kingdom Internet site, "This box figurine defies the expression “three’s a crowd.” The unlikely trio rests peacefully, with the mouse nestled between the cat’s paws and a dog protecting his two friends. Inside Version 1 are Mad Murphy’s favourite possessions: a teddy bear, guitar, stereo, pin-up poster, Pungu magazine (children’s cartoon character), bicycle pump, after shave and hot water bottle. The anagram on Murphy’s pillow unscrambles to spell Subaru Forester, the new car that Peter had just purchased. Murphy himself is seen emerging from the piece. Tubs the turtle replaced Murphy in the Infinity Version, and the interior portrays a mouse reading a “Beware of the Log” sign. Thinking this is a mistake, he changes it to “Beware of the Dog,” whereupon he is flattened by a log. Hallmarks include ©, moon, HBC logo, ed.#, and Pc."
The box was originally carved by master carver Peter Calvesbert in 1999 and released on 6/1/1999. It was retired on 10/17/2003. Edition size was 16495. The dimensions of the piece are 2.8 x 2.6 x 2.05 inches. The model number is TJBM. Pecking Order is referenced in the 9th edition Price Guide to Contemporary Collectibles and Limited editions by Mary L. Sieber. The box figurine is in excellent condition, but unfortunately does not come with the original box or insert. The paper label on the underside has faded and the title is not readable.
