Another beautiful leaf shaped plate by Southern Potteries' Blue Ridge China line to grace your table. It is handpainted underglaze. The chintz like pattern called Summertime has a pink rose, a purple flower, a red flower with yellow center, and a yellow tulip scattered among various leaves and flower buds. There is a raised blue cluster of grapes by the handle. The rims and handle are adorned with alternating light blue lines and dots. The plate measures 10.75" from leaf tip to handle, and about 6.25" wide. It is about 2.5" tall at the handle. There are no chips, cracks or crazing.
Production of Blue Ridge dinnerware was begun about 1938 and continued until the factory closure in 1957. The factory, located in Erwin, Tennessee, employed hundreds of girls and women in the local area and trained them to do freehand painting. So although the basic pattern was followed as to color, design and placement, the charm of the dinnerware is in the slight variation of one piece from another due to the freehand painting, as well as the bright colors and designs.
