This beautiful old ceramic divided tray still has brilliant hand painted colors of yellow, red, orange, and black in a floral design. The stamped logo on the bottom is that of a Japanese company, Moriyama Mori-machi, which states hand painted Japan. The number 6 is also present as is an incised mark of two M's inside a diamond. There is fine overall crazing which adds to the charm of this piece. No chips or cracks. There is some discoloration on the underside. The tray measures 10" in diameter and is 1" deep. The tray dates to the late 1920's according to Gotheborg's information on Japanese marks.
The charming original case is included but has a few flaws. It appears to be made of some kind of composition board that has been painted, and has developed crazing. It sounds like a light weight wood when tapped. The cover has several areas were the colors have bleached out and where mildew has caused some discoloration. There are also a few nicks here and there, particularly along the bottom of the container's rim. The bottom is marked Made in Japan. The diameter of the case is 10.5" and depth 2".
