This unusual piece of Rookwood pottery in the shape of a shell is marked Rookwood Faience and incised with 960 2SR along the base. Rookwood's Faience pieces were produced as tiles for use in architectural design. The edge along the base is somewhat crude with a rough surface not completely covered with glaze. The underside is not glazed either. The piece measure 4.75" long, 4.5" wide, and 3.5" deep. It weighs 1.5 pounds.
