In 1986-1988, the Franklin Mint issued a series of cat figurines for the Curio Cabinet Cats Collection. Each cat was produced from a different material, in different countries, and reflected various art forms popular through the ages. This sleeping cat is made to represent the Netsuke, an art form developed in Japan during the Edo period (1615-1868). The process originally involved layering wood with coats of lacquer, letting each dry before adding another, then carving intricate designs in to the piece. This piece still has the label of the Franklin Mint from 1986 and a label indicating it was produced in Hong Kong. The cat measures about 2.25" wide. It is in excellent condition. No box or paperwork. Note: Labels may be in slightly differennt locations as I have four identical cats listed for sale.
