Here’s a beautiful antique Victorian citrine glass pendant adapted from a brooch, on a 14K yellow gold chain!
This sweet 1800's pendant necklace features at its center a large oval faceted citrine-color glass in an open-backed bezel. The citrine glass is so very lovely I thought it was genuine citrine until I tested it with a gem tester. It's surrounded by an embossed, gold-filled body and scalloped-edge frame. The recesses of the design retain their original time-created patina, enhancing its antique beauty.
This estate piece was originally worn as a brooch; at some point in its history the c-clasp broke and three rings were added on its reverse and the original gilt silver stem was bent and inserted into the window opening behind the citrine glass. A pretty contemporary 14k yellow gold chain was added, to convert it to a pendant. A jeweler could easily fashion a new c-clasp and unbend the stem allowing it to also be worn as a brooch. The pendant currently sits horizontally; the chain clasp can be temporarily removed to thread the chain through the third loop if the wearer prefers a vertical orientation for the pendant. The faux citrine has minor facet wear visible under magnification.
The chain is stamped on the spring ring clasp and on the diamond-shaped plaque with a 14K hallmark. The plaque is also signed with a maker's hallmark: a W or M inside a five-lobed leaf. Acid testing confirms the gold is 14k. The pendant is unmarked and acid tests as 12k gold-filled.
