Antique 16k Art Deco White Lava Cameo Brooch Pin Yellow Gold Etched Classical Bust

Here’s a handsome antique carved white lava cameo bust brooch in an Art Deco setting of 16k yellow gold!

This elegant brooch features a carved Classical bust of white lava, held in a bezel and 16k hand-etched frame. The cameo itself has a Victorian appearance and we suspect it dates to an earlier time than the body of the brooch, around the 1860's and it may have a souvenir of someone's Grand Tour. The hand-etched acanthus leaf scrollwork around the frame dates to around the 1920's in the Art Deco era, and the brooch is a lovely example of Art Deco Victorian Revival / Greek Revival jewelry.

The metal is unmarked for purity. The bezel and frame acid test around 16k (gold firmly holds with 14k test solution and partially holds with 18k solution), the pin as 14k, and the hooded safety clasp as gilt silver. On its reverse the cameo is secured in its frame with a ring of what looks like silver with a dark patina, and the pin is held to the brooch by a tube hinge. The brooch retains its original time-created patina, enhancing its antique beauty.
